Hello Michael, the next evening of discussion we will be having in the bar will be on the subject of Community, on Wednesday 15th Feb 2012. You can buy tickets online through www.tomastalks.com or on the door.

i hope to see you there.

All the best

Jasmin

Description of the talk:

3 talks by top speakers Followed by Q&A.

Speakers:

Emma Bridgewater, the ceramics manufacturer

William Alsop OBE RA, the architect and journalist

Naomi Colvin, involved in UK Occupy movement, especially on press side

It is often said that the UK has lost its sense of community and that our society is fractured. Indeed, this is the appeal of the 'Big Society' rhetoric. Our next talks examine these ideas from different angles. Have we lost community and is that a bad thing? What are we doing about it, and what could we be doing?

Emma Bridgewater reflects on her experience at her factory in Stoke-on-Trent and talks about the idea of 'a workforce'. William Alsop, the mind behind many of Britain's controversial modernist buildings, will talk about the influence a building can have on community, while Naomi Colvin will voice the concerns of the Occupy Movement and explain why Britain is not as democratic as it claims.
